Active Adult & Seniors

Communities & Resources

Beautiful Tucson and the surrounding areas are a mecca for all demographics, and active adults and seniors are definitely among those who enjoy the warm, dry weather and wonderful culture that Southern Arizona offers. In Oro Valley (as well as Tucson and Marana), nestled at the bottom of the majestic Catalina Mountains, seniors in all stages can find communities to suit their particular lifestyle.

Active Adult and Senior Communities

Sun City Oro Valley (formerly known as Sun City Vistoso) is an impressive active-adult community located adjacent to the master-planned community of Rancho Vistoso in Oro Valley, Arizona. The Del Webb/Pulte built homes of Sun City Oro Valley are situated in the northeastern corridor of Rancho Vistoso and are surrounded by beautiful high desert. The expansive community of Sun City Oro Valley includes a vast array of amenities and offers homeowners spectacular views of the Catalina Mountains. Many homes in Sun City Oro Valley are also adjacent to Sun City’s golf course, The Views Golf Club, offering beautiful views of the fairways and greens. The social and cultural aspect of this community will appeal to a broad range of adults. Visit our Sun City Oro Valley Page for an in depth look at this great community.

Also in Rancho Vistoso you will find the smaller and gated active adult community of Vistoso Village. For assisted and continuing care living options, Oro Valley is home to the ultra luxurious Splendido at Rancho Vistoso, and the fabulous All Seasons Oro Valley. Both are state of the art facilities that provide independent living and assisted living options. All Seasons Oro Valley also offers memory care. Splendido has an onsite healthcare facility, Sonora at Splendido, that offers rehabilitation services, memory support, hospice and more. There are many more options for assisted living and memory care in Oro Valley as well.

Further north, up State Route 77 (Oracle Road), and after the town of Catalina, seniors will be delighted with the unsurpassed beauty of the SaddleBrooke communities. Offering golf galore, a stunning array of social activities, the largest assortment of clubs, groups and classes of any active adult community in the Tucson area, the Saddlebrooke communities are especially vibrant both in environment and residents. See our Saddlebrooke Communities Page to explore further.

Heading back through Oro Valley, and east down Tangerine Road, The Highlands at Dove Mountain (formerly Heritage Highlands) in Marana is an active adult community smaller than Sun City Oro Valley and the Saddlebrooke communities, but fabulous nonetheless. The Highlands at Dove Mountain is part of the larger master planned community Dove Mountain, home to the Ritz-Carlton resort and the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship. Learn more about the Highlands at Dove Mountain here and check out what this community has in store for you.

Senior Resources

As far as senior resources go in the Tucson and Oro Valley area, the Pima Council on Aging is hands down the “go to” place for resources, advocacy and program. The offer assistance and information on everything from caregiving support to employment for seniors, help lines, transportation assistance, elder rights, Medicare and more. If you are in need of senior resources or assistance- this should be the very first place you try.

Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Arizona is another wonderful resource that offers programs and resources for seniors, including counseling.

Note - I have utilized both these organizations to assist an older friend, and found them to be very responsive and highly empathetic.

The senior portion of the USA.gov website also is a place to obtain a wealth of information. Some topics include grandparents raising grandchildren, money and tax information and advice for seniors, contact information for federal and state agencies geared towards seniors, consumer protection and more.

H.E.E.D (Health, Education, Employment & Discounts)- The Oro Valley Veterans Support Initiative is an online information website providing valuable resources to veterans and their families. Visit their website today, and also meet them in person most Saturdays at the Oro Valley farmers market. The are eager to provide you any guidance they can. Wonderful group!!

Looking after yourself physically is paramount to ensuring a vibrant future. A great place to start if you aren’t getting the activity in you should is StartStanding.org . Their mission is to educate people about the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle and to help people find simple ways to add movement into their life.
